How To Read A Celtic Cross Tarot Reading
Welcome. Today’s video is about the Celtic Cross Tarot spread.
I will explain the card positions so that you can understand the positional meanings.
So as not to cause confusion, it will be assumed that I’m sitting across from my client as a reader, and therefore, card number Six is on my left side. That being said, let’s now look in more detail.

Reading The Celtic Cross Layout
The Celtic spread uses ten cards that are laid out in four columns.
On the left (Card number six) and on the right (card number four). You will notice that these two columns have a single card, whilst the centre column has four cards, with card two lying on top of card one, forming a cross.
Card Three sits above card one, and card five is at the bottom of cards one and two.
On the far right side, four cards are numbered from seven up to ten.
If you look at the cards, you should notice that cards one to six form a cross shape, with a smaller cross in the centre, hence the “Celtic Cross” spread.
You may find similar Celtic Cross spreads in your travels; however, the positional meanings will generally remain the same.
Now that I have covered the positioning of the cards let me explain what each position represents. I hope you got your ‘thinking head-on’, as this could be hard to understand for some newbies.
Celtic Cross Position One
This position is referred to as the “Querent or the Significator.” It represents the customer or a person the customer is asking about.
While going through them, I will introduce an example of tarot reading to see how the positions and tarot cards affect each other.
Providing an example reading helps to convey the meaning of the Significator, but it’s important to remember that this example is not intended to explore the meanings of the tarot cards in any great depth.
The Tarot Card For Position One
The customer has the Devil card, which indicates that he or she likes the good things in life. This position suggests that spending is an issue and that they should try to keep control of their finances.
Celtic Cross Position Two
The next card position is card number two which indicates what”Obstacles or Challenges” the customer has been through.
Tarot Card For Position Two
We turned over the “Hang Man Card.” This card suggests being suspended in time. Since the card is in position two, we can predict that the customer’s Challenges involve being unable to move on in a given situation.
Celtic Cross Position Three
Position three is about ‘Influences and Conscious’
Tarot Card For Position Three
We have drawn the ‘magician’ card for position three. The card brings in influences as the magician is seen to be successful. It also suggests using potential, not holding back, but seeking your desires and life goals.
Celtic Cross Position Four
Position four is referred to as the Root or Subconscious.
This position reflects the Subconscious/Unconscious urges that have influenced the situation.
This card can reveal the shadow self or childhood conditioning that has formed the energy around the issue or personality.
Tarot Card For Position Four
We have drawn the Ten of Cups, which primarily suggest a loving individual sharing their love with others.
The Ten of Cups embodies happiness, joy, and emotional contentment, particularly in your relationships and family. You have created abundant love and happiness in your life, and you now share this love with others.
As this card is in position Four, we can understand that the root action is geared around joy and happiness. It could be probable that the customer had childhood influences that enlightened him or her to become a joyful person.
Celtic Cross Position Five
As we move to position Five, it can be easy to understand why the reading has favoured the customer.
All of this could change because position Five is about the Past. This is sometimes a key influencer if the customer feels they have encountered many barriers and have been blocked from moving on.
Tarot Card For Position Five
The card is the Moon card. The Moon tells you that something about a situation or person in your life is not what it appears to be, and you need to trust what your instincts are telling you to see past this illusion. The Moon also indicates that the customer should pay attention to their dreams, as the subconscious may bring much attention to some information they have missed.
, which will be why they feel life is not going the way they wish it could.
Celtic Cross Position Six
Moving on to position Six which represents the Future. This is a key position, as most will want this card more than any other
Tarot Card For Position Six
We have drawn the Six of Pentacles.
This card embodies the idea that a person is going to be extremely generous towards the customer, bringing in kindness, wealth, and gifts.
This card and its position sum up a good degree of happiness when receiving and giving wonderful rewards, which could include money, knowledge, and kindness for the foreseeable future.
Celtic Cross Position Seven
Position Seven is associated with Attitude. Meaning the overall outlook for a given set of questions or situations in the customer’s life path.
Tarot Card For Position Seven
The chosen card is the Ace of Cups, which should prove highly relevant for attitude since it focuses on the five senses.
This card often appears in Tarot readings when a customer is open to creative expression, especially when they can allow their emotions to shine through their future endeavours.
The relevance is self-explained because the card description truly reflects position Seven.
Celtic Cross Position Eight
Position Eight is about the Environment, which basically means who, what and how the customer’s environment may be affecting the customer’s life path.
Tarot Card For Position Eight
The Fool card is selected. It shows a person who has not given too much thought to the future and takes each day as it comes. It can indicate a new beginning for personal development and growth.
Given the card’s position, it may be concluded that the customer can open his or her path and create new environments, such as new hobbies, start to plan ahead, and choose more wisely associates or friends before opening up the true self.
Celtic Cross Position Nine
Position Nine focuses on the customer’s Hopes, and Fears. This sounds like an ordeal or something to dread, but in actual fact, it’s about scheduling a new life and tackling those most hidden inner demons, which are getting in the way.
Tarot Card For Position Nine
It is interesting that the card that was drawn for this position is the King of Wands. This highly sought-after figurehead clearly understands the words “Calm, Control, and Creativity.”
The positioning and card relevance dictate that the King of Wands reminds you to lead your life with intent, vision, and a long-term view. You have a grand idea of what is truly possible, and you will stop at nothing to reshape areas that can be improved or remove those that are getting in your way.
Celtic Cross Position Ten
The final position is Ten which uncovers the full outcome of the reading or a particular question.
Tarot Card For Position Ten
The card draw for this position is the Empress. She has a wonderful outlook on life, with a particular interest in Love matters, Family growth, and Business expansions.
The overall feeling for the outcome is of a positive influencer, who can allow the customer to expand in many ways if he or she is willing to listen and act upon genuine advice.
The position can also refer to an outcome that could require the removal of unneeded items, prior to moving on to a better lifestyle or business venture.
